DRILL TEAM

A military drill team is a marching unit that performs routines based on military drill. These teams often perfect their proficiency and then choose to compete against other programs. These competitions are generally called "Drill Meets", and are held all across the world. The top American bladed (bayonet-only) independent drill meet is Pro America [1] and the top American independent armed drill meet is the Isis World Drill Championships [2] for post high school professional exhibition drillers in the nation. There is also the National High School Drill Team Championships [3] held in Daytona Beach, Florida for high school students where schools from across the US descend on Daytona Beach and the Ocean Center for a wonderful weekend of competition and camaraderie. There are two divisions for competing, Unarmed, and Armed.

ORIENTEERING TEAM

Orienteering is a sport that is recognized as a lettered sport. In orienteering the cadet will use a map to run a course through various types of terrain to find control marks spread throughout the park that you are running in. The distance of the courses very depending on which course the runner is running. To be an efficient orienteer you must memorize the map symbols, how to read the contour lines, and know how to read a map in general. Another key factor that a accomplished orienteer must master is being able to run the course they are working on with good speed and efficiency. In orienteering the cadets run individually, once all the runners come back from running their course they are scored and the team with the highest score wins the meet, but, there are chances for a cadet to receive individual medal for placing within the top so many of their course.

RIFLE TEAM

Rifle Team is a marksmanship team which shoots three position "sporter" air rifle.  A three position air rifle (3PAR) match shoots in Prone (lying down), Offhand (or standing), and Kneeling positions.  Sporter is a category of air rifle in which the rules limit the complexity of the equipment and rifles, and thus remains affordable to more junior marksmen. Precision air rifle is much higher quality, has more adjustments, and includes more equipment to help the shooter be still.  Junior Air Rifle includes anyone high school age and younger.

ACADEMIC TEAM

The Academic Team studies current events, maritime history, oceanography, astronomy, leadership, shipboard weapons and design from the Naval Science 1, 2 and 3 texts. The cadets then use this knowledge to compete in what is called a "Brain Brawl" against various schools throughout the country. The Academic Team also participates in some Drill meets in which each school is given a paper test and the scores from them are calculated from each cadet. The top 5 overall cadets that score the highest are often rewarded with a medal.
